Give Stock or Other Securities
HabitatMCTX accepts gifts of securities. The policy is to sell marketable securities immediately upon receipt from the donor. Gifts of securities are made by electronic transfer. A gift of transferred securities is considered complete on the date it is received in the affiliate’s account. Please contact Isabel Jones, Director of Development, at 936-441-4663 or via email at email@example.com for additional information that you will need to complete the transaction.
You have supported HabitatMCTX during your lifetime. You believe in the mission and understand that we will continue to make a positive difference in the world far into the future. How can you provide for future support?
By including a charitable bequest in your will or revocable trust. Bequests often enable donors to give more than would have been possible during their lifetimes. Bequests may be kept private, and they can be changed during the donor’s lifetime. Bequests are relatively easy to establish, often with just a simple addition to a will or revocable trust, and bequests are tax-wise: gifts through bequests qualify for certain estate tax deductions.
Bequests can take several forms such as:
- Specific bequest – a certain amount of cash, securities, or property.
- General bequest – property that is similar to all other items distributed, usually cash.
- Percentage bequest – a stated percentage of the donor’s estate.
- Residual bequest – all or a portion of what remains of the estate after specific and general bequests are distributed.
A type of charitable giving that allows you to express your personal values by integrating your charitable, family and financial goals, while decreasing the income tax, estate, and gift tax burdens upon their estates and descendants. Making a planned charitable gift usually requires the assistance of a knowledgeable advisor such as an attorney, financial planner, or CPA to help structure the gift.
Some examples of this type of gift include:
- Living Trust
- Life Insurance
- Retained Life Estate
- Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust
- Charitable Remainder Unitrust
- Charitable Lead Trust
- Charitable Remainder Trust
Corporate Matching Gifts
Many companies offer matching gift programs, and we encourage you to check here (link to matching gift resource which I believe HFHI subscribes to) to see if your employer has a program which will match your donation made to HabitatMCTX. A corporate match may allow you to double – or even triple – the impact of your gift, and the donor is recognized for the entire amount!
Follow your company guidelines for submission.
There are a number of companies that will offer employees volunteer grants. These grants take into account participants who volunteer in the community on an individual basis. A financial grant is awarded to HabitatMCTX usually after volunteer hours have been verified.
Exxonmobil, Insperity and Shell Oil are examples of companies that advocate and reward volunteer efforts. Follow your company guidelines for submission.
HabitatMCTX will accept real estate on an individual case by case basis. The affiliate does not accept any property that is encumbered by a mortgage, lien, or other indebtedness.
Home Build Sponsorships
Habitat homes are built through the generosity of our donors and volunteers. The building materials are purchased with financial support from corporate, community and faith-based sponsors. As a sponsor, your team or corporation gets priority in volunteer scheduling.
See our sponsorship opportunities (link to build sponsor opportunities) for more information. Spaces are limited. The build season runs from September through May.
In Kind Gifts
Donations of property rather than money, such as computers, tools, equipment, etc., which provide operational savings and meet a specific need of the affiliate, are acknowledged as a gifts-in-kind. Items donated to the ReStore for resale are also considered in kind donations. Donors are responsible for assigning a dollar value to these types of gifts. The IRS does not recognize value of a person’s time or services as a gift-in-kind.
HabitatMCTX will periodically conduct capital campaigns that support significant growth and strengthen the commitment of HabitatMCTX to provide a program that offers hard working families the opportunity of obtaining safe and affordable housing through home ownership. Capital campaigns are used to raise money for concrete projects such as new construction and building renovations or expansions.
With the help of donors supporting the ReStore Capital Campaign, the ReStore at Woodforest Center was able to re-locate to a new building, tripling in size and allowing better access for Habitat supporters.
